I really dont want this to be exclusively a sports blog, but it is september which means the start of college football. I am a HUGE Texas Tech fan. I attended Tech from 98-00 and was a member of the football team before an injury and too many bodyshots off of cheerleaders made me realize I needed to focus more on my academic pursuits instead of the next Lubbock barn party.
That said... the big 12 south had a suprising opening weekend. Both Tech and UT played tampon state for their openers and dispensed an unsuprising ASSWHIPPING. OU opended with slightly more potent BYU (ranked 20) in what should have been a solid thumping by the Sooners. WRONG.
BYU came out hitting and playing smashmouth football for 2 quarters, before knocking the shit out of OU quarterback Sam Bradford on a linebacker stunt, which sent Bradford to the sidelines for the duration. BYU didnt let up and out hit and out scored the Sooners on the way to the first major upset of the college season.
Now I dont like to see anyone get injured, especially a player the caliber of Bradford.... but there is a HUGE difference between being injured and being HURT. Anyone that has played football, especially at the collegiate level knows that painful collisions are a fact of life. You are going to get hit and sometimes it is going to hurt. Alot. Quarterbacks and ball carriers are more in danger of getting plowed, but anyone between the sidelines is fair game. Sam Bradford took several hits prior to the one that injured him. Id venture to say more than he took in any game last year.
When you have an offensive line that gives 240 lb linebackers and 300 lb defensive linemen free reign free bellringers on your quarterback, he isnt going to last very long. The offensive line was the major question for OU coming into this game... now I guess we know the answer. All the pre season hype about the potency of this offense means jack shit now... Im one of those that bought into the hype, even picking OU to win the south.
Bradford will be back in 2-4 weeks, but if the O line continues to play like fucking prom queens then Bradford's last dance will be against pass rush specialists Miami, or a blitzing UT linebacker.
Bradford has shown that he cant take abuse (Tech game '07).... his fat boys up front arent helping him any.
Another hit for OU is the loss of all galaxy tight end Jermaine (sp?) Gresham. Hes's out for the season.... and guess what? His back up is a fucking walk-on! No disrespect to the Rudys of the world, but those are REALLY big shoes to fill. And Gresham could block too.
OU coach Bob Stoops did his usual preseason hype up like he does every year. OU is going to be great. We have so many returning starters. We looked really good in spring ball and our scrimages. I respect Stoops alot, but shouldnt he just keep his mouth shut? When you brag to Sooner nation about how great OU is going to be, you are setting alot of high expectations.... and when those expectations arent met (i.e BYU) then you have alot of pissed off fans. There were people threatening to sell their season tickets, which is fucking stupid if you ask me, but it had THAT much effect on Sooner nation morale.
OU needs to button up, get an offensive line scheme together and keep their mouths shut.
They have Miami in 2 weeks..........in my opinion, trigger shy Bradford+ no Gresham= NO CHANCE.
The other okie team, OK State was polar opposite their Sooner neighbors in their opener against potent Georgia. OSU dominated Georgia for most of the game, even along the defensive line, which was a major question going in. OSU'S QB/ WR connection of Zac Robinson to Dez Bryant has heisman potential, and OSU sported a pretty impressive defense, which they havent had for several years, switching from a 4-3 to a modified 3-4 that puts a speedy coverage linebacker in play. OSU was my Darkhorse in the south and they are living up to that role.
Baylor, the joke of the south the past few years, has sprung back to life. Behind superstar quarterback Griffin and a re tooled aggressive defense, the Bears posted an impressive win over Wake forest. Baylor will upset one of the big dogs this year, hopefully UT.
As for the other south team..the maroon panty wastes in college station, well....
WE DONT SPEAK AGGIE AROUND HERE.
Though they did post an impressive win over...... well....
who the hell cares? >:)
This blog has gotten way too long and my beer is getting cold.......

Not to be a critic of someone else's opinion...but if you got injured and had to focus on your academic pursuits why were you only there for 2 years? Any monkey with half a brain can graduate from texas tech. I know because I know several people who graduated from there. As for taking shots off of cheerleaders, well tech also has the highest percentage of std infected college students in america so Im not so sure why your bragging about having contracted herpes while being a walk on for the SMALLEST school of the three major state universities. If you in fact did play football at all, which I doubt. And as for those "maroon panty wastes".... do you know what you call an aggie after he graduates... BOSS.... and Im sure that any aggie fresh out of school probably makes 2-3 times in 6 months what you do in a year.... so before you go around pissing in peoples back yard you ought to take a look into yours.... thanks and GIG 'EM
ReplyDeleteLooks like ive pissed off an aggie. Im not going to waste my time in a pissing contest with anyone as far as salaries, stds, athletic ability, or whether or not I graduated, which I did. You are entitled to your opinion as well which is what makes the Tech/ A&M rivalry what it is.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the std thing goes... ive been to college station...
they grow hoes as well as anyone.
...ill let you get back to trying to figure out how to peel those m&ms.
